Description of Position / Project: As a member of the Science Fair Committee you will help complete at least one of the goals listed below:
  • Develop a procedure to effectively run the Science Fair Projects at our 8 Gr5 to Gr8 Science Clubs.
  • Strategize a way to make the projects engaging and competitive so our club members can participate in, at minimum, the city wide competitions.
  • Help volunteers in running the Science Fair Projects at the various clubs during the science club term.

  • Organize and coordinate the VoSNL's Science Fair for May 2010.

Why do we want our Science Club students to do a Science Fair Project and participate in a Science Fair?

The general reason is to teach them via demonstrations and in practice what the Scientific Method is and how it is used. The more important reason however is to motivate our students to get educated. Making a Science Fair Project and being able to present it at a Science Fair is a big motivator in itself. It boosts self-confidence by telling the student that they have the ability to do a science experiment. It also enhances communication skills, public speaking skills, writing skills, etc. In all, doing a Science Fair Project significantly improves a students skill set which is why we run them at our clubs.

Benefits to the Volunteer: Other than the sheer satisfaction of contributing to free science clubs that run in underrepresented and underprivileged communities in the Greater Toronto Area, being part of the Science Fair Committee will benefit YOU in the following way:
