Curriculum Developer (~50 positions available)

Duration: There is no set time for this. You will be given a deadline that is most convenient for you and effective for the organization.

Our General Policy is the following: To develop one experiment we generally provide THREE MONTHS. However, there is no penalty for submitting your experiment earlier.

Location: Work From Home or at any place you have access to a computer
Description of Position / Project: As a Curriculum Developer you would develop an Experimental Module on a topic that interests YOU the most in fields of Science, Engineering or Technology. We will just need to make sure that the experiment has not been done already, that's all.

The goal is to make the experimental module:

  • Simple so the kids can grasp the topic easily.
  • Fun by having various experiments to prove / describe / elaborate on the topic.
  • Low on Cost so the amount of material can be easily purchased for 16 clubs.

Though the experiment is developed independently, our amazing Curriculum Advisor is there for mentoring you throughout the process and making sure that you don't get stuck. She is great at giving suggestions for add-on experiments and to provide topic suggestions if needed. She will also review your experiment after you have completed it and assist you in making any changes if necessary.

Requirements to keep in mind to develop the module:

  1. Follow VoSNL Module Template: Two documents are to be developed. One is for the Facilitators that will be running the activity and the other is for the students that will be doing the activity. Please see the Balloon Powered Car Experiment Module to give you a better idea of what we are requesting -Facilitators Handout / Students Handout.
  2. Include a Scientist Highlight relevant to the experiment (See Balloon Power Car experiment for an example).
  3. Experiments do not have to be developed from scratch. You can take them from the internet or from your course labs and add them to your module.
  4. Have fun with it and make it as exciting as possible for the students.

Based on our recommendations, our volunteers have got hired by the Ontario Science Centre, University of Toronto Science Outreach Summer Program, and various other volunteer positions at Hospitals, Old Age Homes, etc.
  3. Add the Experiment you develop to your portfolio to demonstrate your talent to potential employers.
