Description of Position / Project: A Science Club Facilitator works with a team of 1 to 4 other volunteers and/or a Club Supervisor to manage one of our Science Clubs for the given term. The tasks are to:
  1. Access the talkvos.org website and download weekly experiments ahead of time.
  2. Review experiments before coming to Science Club so you are familiar with the activity and have an idea of how to run it. (Please see our example experiment to get a better idea of the kind of activities we run: Balloon Powered Car - Facilitators Handout / Students Handout)
  3. Arrive at the Science Club 15 to 30 minutes early with the rest of the volunteers and coordinating as to how the activity will be run (Who will present what?, will the students be split into groups, etc). Also, take out all necessary supplies and set it up before the students get there (delivered to the club by the VoS Admin staff before hand).
  4. Engage the students in the activity by getting them to read the steps from their hand out and asking questions about the activity when possible to get them to think. Also make sure to walk them through the Scientist Highlight and to help them understand what the education entails while pointing out that it is completely doable.
  5. Clean up after the experiment and place supplies back in bin.
  6. Have an experiment feedback discussion with the other volunteers right after the session and provide feedback on the talkvos.org website (link provided next to Experiment Schedule on Club Page). This step is a requirement for all volunteers in order for us to improve our experiments before we run them again.
